Psalms to My Lord... By Richard P. Duffield Jr.

I call these "Psalms", maybe they'd best be described as "Sonnets", I don'y know but I hope you enjoy them!

I wrote them for my Lord, He'll know what to call them... (Check out #8 below, it's my favorite!)

Psalm 1 (RPD)

Deep in the corridors of Sheol I dwelt
Heavily laden with the odors of gloom and death
Jesus, You descended into the Pit to save me
Forsaking much to save a wretch such as I

Forever I will esteem You and glorify Your name
Forever I will love You and serve You and praise You my Lord
Saved and forgiven and covered in the blood I rest
Blessing You and praising You and giving You my utmost, my best

Over and over I recall that day
When You forgave me, saved me, and washed my sins away
I love You, I praise You, I commit to you my whole heart Lord Jesus today
From this time forth and even forever more
Ever my precious Jesus will I esteem You and glorify Your name
Blessing You and praising You and giving You my utmost, my best

Psalm 2 (RPD)

Loving You is easy 'cause You're beautiful
Jesus, You're the Colors of my rainbow
Through the corridors of life we walk together
In Your loving arms I find my peace
Joy unspeakable flows freely from You, the Lover and Keeper of my soul

Jesus, lead me down the paths of righteousness, now and forevermore
As more and more each day I seek to be molded and conformed to Your image
Grace and mercy ever abound as I continually draw upon Your strength to carry on
Honor and glory and power to Your name my Lord and God
Loving You is easy 'cause You're beautiful
Jesus, You're the Colors of my rainbow

Psalm 3 (RPD)

Into the hallowed presence of the Most High I humbly enter
Singing praises, giving glory, and worshipping the One who's grace ever abounds to me
Jesus, the only name whereby a man can be saved
Jesus, the only One who could bridge the gap between God and man

Hallelujah, hallelujah, praise and honor to the Lamb
Hallelujah, hallelujah, Yeshua Jesus, our Savior, Abraham's ram

As I set my mind on the prize laid before me, heaven
Help me Lord, guide me Lord, be a Light unto my path
By Your grace I'll submit and be led by Your Spirit
Singing praises, giving glory, and worshipping my Lord, my Savior, my Lamb
Jesus, the only name whereby a man can be saved

Hallelujah, hallelujah, praise and honor to the Lamb
Hallelujah, hallelujah, Yeshua Jesus, our Savior, Abraham's ram

Psalm 4 (RPD)

Lord, stretch the boundaries of my heart
In as much as I feel I love You with my whole heart, I know I could, should, love You even more
Oh Jesus, hear my cries, hear what's on my heart today
You loved me Lord, so much in fact that You died for me
While yet a sinner, You stepped down from on High and died the death of crucifixion on my behalf, this Your love lives on and on
Lord, stretch the boundaries of my heart

Even as Calvary's cross stands forever as a picture of Your love for me
Allow me to present my body, a living sacrifice to You this and every day for all to see
Your mercy oh Lord endures forever
Do not forsake the works of Your hands Lord Jesus
Lord, stretch the boundaries of my heart

PSALM 5 (RPD)

Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life
Music to the ears of those who love You
Breath and life for all those who walk this earth
Creator of all that is, or was, or ever shall be
Mercy and grace are Your trademarks
Love everlasting for a creation fallen from grace

God incarnate, walking and talking among us
Spreading the love by which this earth was created
Making a way where there was no way
Giving Your life that others may live
Paying a price too high to even comprehend

Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life
Music to my ears as I accept Your sacrifice
Breath and life eternal as I enter into Your mercy and grace
My peace, my love, my forgiveness bought by Your blood
A covenant of blood, joining God and man once again

Search me this day Lord, search my heart
Help me to walk pleasing in Your sight
Instill in me a passion to become more like You
That through me You may be reproduced in others
God incarnate, walking and talking among us
Making a way where there was no way
Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life

Psalm 6 (RPD)

Lord I long to see Your face
Amidst troubled waters and peaceful summer nights alike
Just a glimpse of the face of the One who colors my world
Songbirds sing and flowers display the songs and colors of Your love
All that is within me yearns for the day when Your face will be revealed from above
Lord I long to see Your face

Jesus, You're the One who makes my oceans blue
My skies awash with cottony clouds of shapes divine
Lord, just a glimpse would satisfy this Your servant's desires
Just a glimpse of the One who colors my world
Lord I long to see Your face

Peace and joy are fruits of my relationship with You
Awesome love never the world has known flows freely from Your presence
Jesus, lover, and maker of all that is my soul and more
Glorious and wonderful are the attributes of Your beauty
Just a dream, a simple glimpse of Your face is all I ask
Lord I long, oh how I long, to see Your wonderful face
Just a glimpse, a simple glimpse of the One who colors my world
Lord, I long to see Your face

Psalm 7 (RPD)

Hosanna, hosanna to the love and remarkable riches of that Man from Galilee
Free gifts for all He came bearing
Gifts of forgiveness, acceptance, and life eternal were free flowing
From the throne of grace, through the blood of this Man, of this Lamb from Galilee

Holy, holy, is that Man from Galilee
Glory and honor to that Lamb who died to make us free
Jesus, You are that Man, alive for all to see
Only by grace, not by my works, do You dwell inside of me

Unspeakable riches were given me that day, when I accepted Your sacrifice for my sins, a debt that only You could possibly pay
Forgiveness from sin, acceptance, life eternal were but a few
Remarkable riches You freely gave to me, and all those who would call upon Your name
Your love oh Lord is boundless I am quite aware
You proved it, You displayed it on Calvary's cross for all to see

Holy, holy, is that Man from Galilee
Worthy, worthy, is that Man who made me free
Free from the bondage of sin, free from the sting of death too
Adopted into the first family of the Most High

Heaven is my destination, Jesus is the Way
Blessed is that Man from Galilee before and ever since that day
Jesus, You are that man, alive inside of me
Submission Lord, that's the part I need to play
Lead me Lord, guide me down the paths that'll keep me free
Holy, holy, is that Man from Galilee
Worthy, worthy, is that Man who made me free

Psalm 8 (RPD)

Lonely, awash in a sea fathomless, adrift in the turbulent white-capped waves
Caught up with all life has to offer, lost and unawares
Seeking safe harbor, tempests all around abound
Life all so meaningless, senseless, yet so profound

Glory transposed into the life of a mere Carpenter, Jesus
Immaculate conception, the product of love for a lost creation
God reaching out, extending an all-powerful hand
A hand filled with mercy, grace, and life giving power

Never the two shall meet, has fate so declared?
This lost creation, so lost, so undeserved of such an act of love
God in all His glory, All Powerful and seated on High
Reached down from heaven and His Son sacrificed with a sigh

Sun, glorious brightness overtaking the clouds of gloom and despair
Is there a chance, daybreak dawning, that my safe harbor beckons near
Jesus I see Your Light in the distance, a lighthouse for all to see
My course I must alter, dangerous shoals abound all around me
Into the sheltered presence of the Most High I take refuge and abide
My course is determined, my mind made up
Undeserved grace, mercy and forgiveness I gratefully receive
Safe harbor, calm waters, peace and joy to all those who believe!

P.S. This one is my personal favorite! (It would be wouldn't it, I'm also a Boat Captain...)

Psalm 9 (RPD) (SONG?)

The seas, the trees, the moon and the stars cry aloud of His greatness, Omnipotence revealed
Echoes and affirmations of what we know to be true
Hues of blue, green, a myriad of colors surround us
All wonderful and lovely creations skillfully crafted by You
Jesus, the Word incarnate, God amongst us, Immanuel
Jesus, our Lord , our Savior, our Redeemer from death and hell

Come all ye people and adore Him, He's come to set us free
He's come to enable us to be what God intended us to be

Freely we thank You and enter into Your gates
Joyfully we praise You and enter into Your courts
With our hearts we'll adore You, worship You as never before
King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Savior, Creator, and more
Jesus, the Word incarnate, God amongst us, Immanuel
Jesus, our Lord , our Savior, our Redeemer from death and hell

Come all ye people and adore Him, He's come to set us free
He's come to enable us to be what God intended us to be

Psalm 10 (RPD) (Song?)

Come all ye people and worship our King
Come all ye people , lift your voices up and sing
Jesus has come, gone up and soon will return again
Jesus , our Lover, our Savior, our God, our Friend

Holy is He who died that we might live with Him
Holy is He who died for us while yet Himself without sin
He came to save us, deliver us from death and hell too
He's Jesus, He's our Savior, this death He died for you

Come all ye people and worship our King
Come all ye people , lift your voices up and sing
Jesus has come, gone up and soon will return again
Jesus , our Lover, our Savior, our God, our Friend

Blessed is our Maker, our God, our Lover, our Friend
Blessed is our Father God, who's Son He did not hesitate to send
How more could His love be expressed than to sacrifice His Son on the cross
How else could He rebuild the chasm between Himself - God, and the lost

Come all ye people and worship our King
Come all ye people , lift your voices up and sing
Jesus has come, gone up and soon will return again
Jesus , our Lover, our Savior, our God, our Friend

Psalm 11 (RPD)

Grace and mercy, abundantly they flow forth
Ever extending from the throne of the Most High, Jehovah God
Enter into His mercy, enter into His grace
Freely accept these blessings, to His Son Jesus Christ, lift your face

Whispery snow white clouds adorn the beautiful blue sun-lit sky
Beautiful red breasted robins, painted roses, singing songbirds across the expanses fly
Ever these gifts we take for granted, bright lights of His love through our eyes diffused and made dim
Love and tenderness expressed towards a creation made to fellowship with Him
Awesome works of an awesome God, unmatched adoration for a creation undeserved, unawares

Could a God so awesome, so loving, really allow us to suffer hell?
Not His, but a choice we make when we decide to forsake such a costly gift as His Son

His Son Jesus He's already given us, sacrificed on Calvary's cross
Unmerited favor, a gift freely given by God, at such expense, at such great loss
Choose now, don't delay to make His Son your Lord
Choose now, allow Jesus to save you from death and hell
A spark of life, rekindled blaze where once a fire's light grew dim
Life eternal, peace & happiness is the prize, His best gift for those who choose Him

Grace and mercy, abundantly they flow forth
Ever extending from the throne of the Most High, Jehovah God
Enter into His mercy, enter into His grace
Freely accept these blessings, to His Son Jesus Christ, lift your face

Under Construction

'Jesus, it's more than just a name, much more than just a name
Jesus, the name that time itself bowed it's lofty head to
The only name given of God by which a man can be saved
But more than just a name, infinitely more, than just a name
A virgin gives birth, a Divine act, God lives and dwells among us
Yes, God, in all His awesome power, comes and walks among us
'Jesus, it's more than just a name, much more than just a name

As a lamb led to the slaughter, so He was led to Calvary's cross
Not a word He uttered, not a sin He committed, ever obedient He sought to fulfill the Father's will
A costly role, a role of suffering, but a role only He could fill
But for the prize laid before Him, He willingly endured that cross
The prize, life eternal, for all those who call upon His name
Such a prize for which He willingly took upon Himself our shame
'Jesus, it's more than just a name, much more than just a name

At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow, every tongue confess
At the name of Jesus demons shall flee, sick made whole, dead shall be raised
But more than just a name, infinitely more, than just a name
He's alive! He lived, He died, He was resurrected, He lives in me!
Jesus, make Him your Lord, give Him your heart, and you'll see
He loves you and longs to know you personally
He's paid the price, shed His own blood, in order to set us free
'Jesus, it's more than just a name, much more than just a name

A Christmas Psalm.. (RPD)

T'was a snow blanketed, bittery cold morn that day in Bethlehem
A mother and a father, seeking shelter as birth pangs grew in their frequency
Just a small corner, a warm place where their child could be born
Just a small area for their soon to come son to enter this world
Innkeeper, innkeeper, can you spare us a room
Warmth and shelter from a cold, uncaring world

Galilee, out of Nazareth, we've left to be registered, to fulfill scripture in this city of David
A special child to be born, one who is coming to save the world
This same world where no room could be found, this cold world where no shelter did abound
A census had been called, people from far had filled this town to overflowing
Inn after inn, no place for shelter, we had to keep going
Innkeeper, innkeeper, can you spare us a room
Warmth and shelter from a cold, uncaring world

An angel had announced the coming of this child, this Savior
A special child come from heaven to enter this world through me
A simple maiden who'd not even known this my husband to be
A marriage never consummated, immaculate conception, a first for the world to see
The life of God incarnate, heart beating, feet kicking, deep inside of me
Innkeeper, innkeeper, can you spare us a room
Warmth and shelter from a cold, uncaring world

Jehovah Jireh, the Lord my Provider, a stable we've found
A manger, meant for animals is where our son, our King would be born
Life, glorious life, brought forth with a stern slap on the rear
Life, eternal life, the product of the Father's love, we've nothing more to fear
Wise men came to revere Him, but a babe in swaddling cloths
Gifts and presents did these shepherds come bearing from the East and from the North
Jesus, the Son of God, the Son of man has come this day to His people
Yeshua Jesus, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world is born a humble carpenter's son
Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, & goodwill to all men

As I keep all these things and ponder them in my heart
I look to my wonderful bundle of joy, my son, my God, the Word made flesh
Who am I but a maidservant that God would choose me to bring forth His Son
Nevertheless let it be done according to Your word O' God
Help me to raise Him, teach Him, train Him in the admonition of the Lord
That He may fulfill His destiny and save this cold and dying world
Innkeeper, innkeeper, can you spare us a room
Warmth and shelter from a cold, uncaring world

'Twas a long time later, a cool and damp Christmas morn
Families busy with gifts, presents, worldly celebration of the day in which Christ was born
On this day, many years ago, a child was born, God with us, Immanuel
Yeshua Jesus, Lord and Savior was come to save us from death and hell
Many would celebrate this day for less than what it signifies
Many would pass this day without giving honor to the One this day glorifies
O Jesus, my Lord, accept my worship, praise and honor this day
You're the One who came, and died, to take our sins away
May we never forget the costly price at Calvary You paid
May we never forget the borrowed but empty tomb in which You laid
You gave us Your all, even Your life You felt was not too much a price to pay
To provide the Father with a perfect sacrifice, to provide us with a Way
Jesus, You're the Innkeeper now with many mansions for those who love You
Jesus, You hold the keys to eternal life & heaven for those You find to be true
Innkeeper, Innkeeper, will you spare me a room
Warmth and shelter from a cold, uncaring world...

UNDER CONSTRUCTION #2

Drops of sweat as blood streamed down His gaunt, determined but grief-stricken face
An act of love, divine atonement for a lost but not forgotten race
This prophet, this teacher, to Gethsemane's garden life & this night had taken Him
To all those present the violent men arriving made His future appear bleak, even grim

Didn't they know that but for this reason had He came
Wasn't it clear that His mission was much more than to give sight to the blind, to heal the lame
The God of Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob had set forth a plan didn't His word foretell
Jesus, His only begotten Son had come to break the powers of death & hell

Led as a lamb to be judged, to be crucified on Calvary's cross
Beaten, scourged,

These "Psalms" or better described "Sonnets" were written while aboard an Oilfield Supply Ship in the Gulf of Mexico offshore Mexico during November & December of 1999.

I hope they'll bring some joy to you as they did and still do me when I read them!

I think if you read them one after the other you'll soon find yourself far from where your physical body is... He loves you and is worthy of ALL OUR PRAISE!

You know what, He likes to hear you say it too...

Be blessed of God!
